Did you ever bring the boyfriend to meet the aunts? In A Hispanic household many call their aunts, “Tia.” This is an endearment and a show of respect. Kinda tells you that in some families, your aunt and uncles are in high regard. Thus the pecking order for cousins were way down there.
Did I mention that any tia or tio (uncle) has full rights to scold you in a Hispanic family? That can make your youth very interesting.
In this work I have named it honoring my Tias. They weren’t snooty or critical but if they were, they would probably be something like these ladies. I have seen others with tias like these.
