Thinking of Fishing

I used to love to send my children with their father on the occasional fishing trip. This meant a time for me to clean house, sit and draw, do things that I couldn’t or didn’t want to do amid all the kids and husband. So fishing means something totally different to me.

When my husband used to bring up the notion of going away for the weekend like camping at some remote spot my stomach turned. My thoughts went to pain and agony, bugs, heat, things that bring me discomfort. But somehow this painting gives me a feeling of calm and solitude. Maybe because the fisherman is sitting on a river bank with a view of a mountain range. We didn’t have anything like that in flat as a pancake Kansas!  I can imagine the weather is warm not hot, absolutely no mosquitoes, and my children are roasting marshmallows somewhere near the tent. Of course, I am at the spa waiting for them at the nearby hotel!
