Doodles and Color

This year started off well with watercolor paintings and doodles that involve experimenting with color.  Still trying to find what I love to do.

I  basically enjoy most forms of art.  I love poppies.  I love the colors and the way poppies stand up straight as if at attention,  Someday I want to grow them but I don’t think they would do well in Missouri with the extreme weather conditions.  I grow roses in my garden so they have a place in my paintings too.

This first one started out as a doodle.  I worked on it until I ran out of room to paint or draw,  I wrote what I was thinking on the couple of times I spent with it.  The “I love you” was pointed at my sweet husband Jon, as he was telling me sweet things I love to hear.

I started this one a few years ago and just finished it up with watercolors.  It is similar to the type of drawings in my art journal. My art teachers told me to draw or paint every day to get really good at it. I neglected art for many years but have rediscovered the amazing power and peace it brings me.

My husbands first wife died before I met him.  I never met her but he did bring many of her art drawings with him.  I know she loved roses and unicorns.  We have a lamp that she applied roses to the glass globe that glows with the colors of the roses.  I hope it brings my husband some joy and warm thoughts of that time with her.  Her name was Judy.

Okay again with my poppies.  If I were to associate with a flower it probably would not be a poppie.  I am more of a carnation or a sunflower.

Poppies remind me of my Pops too.  He was a member of the American Legion in our small town. He used to give poppies out in memory of our military.  My pop was a very patriotic man.  I have inherited the love of my country and of our soldiers.  My first husband was in the Air Force.  I love them airmen. So off the topic of poppies.
